Hey y’all! So I am super excited to be sharing this post with you all. If you read my last post on saving money by meal planning then you will love this post even more! I ran out of foundation and mascara the other day and ever since then I have been thinking about ways to save money on beauty products/treatments. We have to have those items so why not figure out ways to save money while purchasing them?
Did you know that women spend approximately $15,000 on beauty products over the course of their lifetime?
That number is shocking to me! That is a LOT of money. I then began to think about all the different beauty products and treatments we as ladies pay for each year. You don’t really think much about it until you make a list. YIKES! Here is a list of products we typically all use and I am sure I have forgotten an item.
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Mascara
- Lip Stick
- Eyeliner
- Eye Shadow
- Contour Kit
- Powder
- Nail Polish
- Shampoo & Conditioner
- Hairspray
- Styling Gel
- Lotion
- Body Scrub
- Moisturizer
- Setting Spray
- Primer
The list can go on and on, but lets not forget about the nail salon, hair salon, tanning bed, and the eyebrow bar. That is a ton of hard-earned cash being spent on beauty products and treatments. We have to have most of those things on that list so I figured I would do some research and see where we can save money on our beauty products but still get the look we want.
- Makeup Remover
- I was shocked when I saw the prices of some higher end makeup removers. The prices ranged anywhere from $15 to $30+. Makeup remover that simply removes our makeup and that is all yet we pay a small fortunes for it. I am all for getting something that is good for your skin and will do the job, but I use two products that will do the trick and save you some cash.
- Coconut oil and Baby oil are my (and my wallets) two favorite makeup removers. Coconut oil is great for your skin and a wonderful moisturizer and it also removes makeup quickly. Plus coconut oil fixes like all of our problems anyway. 😉 Baby oil takes off your eye makeup only, but it is gentle enough to use on your eyelids. Both come in large quantities and are cheap.

- Foundation
- This one is kind of tricky to tackle. I was an avid user of Bare Mineral’s “Bare Skin” foundation and I loved it. I typically spent $28 for a small bottle and it lasted about a month. Truly, it saved money by buying the more expensive kind because it lasted so long for me, but lately I have been buying another wonderful foundation for only $8.00 and it long-lasting as well. You heard me correctly.. only $8 from the drugstore and it is long lasting.
- E.L.F. Foundation. I have recently discovered their cosmetics and I am in LOVE. For all you frugal gals like me out there this is the most amazing foundation for less than half the price of higher end foundations. I actually even like it better than the Bare Minerals foundation and that is saying a lot.
- A few other good drug store foundation dupes are: LOréal “Infallible Pro-Mate,” Rimmel “Stay Matte,” and NYX “HD” formula. Those drugstore foundations are compared to MAC, NARS, and Estee Lauder brand.
3. Nail’s
- While doing my beauty research I read that when you go to the nail salon you end up spending between $10-$45 for a manicure and between $15-$50 for a pedicure. That does not include your tip. That’s a lot of money.
- I suggest having a ladies nail night and doing each others nails all while getting a break from the normal hustle and bustle. This is a fun way to save money and spend time with your girlfriends. Pinterest is full of nail DIY videos and I am confident you can do it!
- If you buy your own tools, nail polish, and any other item you may need for your nails you still will not have spent the amount you would in a nail salon. That is a lot of money saved my friend!
- Plus, many studies have shown that nail salons are not sanitary and do not meet the health requirements they are supposed to meet. That leaves room for a lot of infections. Yikes!
4. Hair
- Getting your hair cut, styled, colored, or all of the above can be very costly. One frugal tip I can give you is only getting a cut. When you only get a cut that means they leave out washing your hair and styling it. I always go home after a hair cut and wash and style my hair myself. Instead of a $35 dollar haircut I end up paying $20 and that includes the tip. $15 saved just like that and I have a new cute hair-do.
- If you need a good fresh color or hair treatment the only money saving tips I have for those processes are either buy a “Groupon” or save up for your color visits.Groupon always has great discounts on salon hair color, cut, etc. Or you can simply save up and set aside money for the salon.
- Hair products can also be costly so I would suggest either purchasing the products at ULTA or catching the products on sale.
- P.S ULTA has a great rewards program.
These are a few of the most common beauty products and treatments most women spend their money on. I hope you have enjoyed my frugal tips and tricks for saving money on your beauty products!
Feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated!
